“I think back on all my memories [from living in Australia] and I am so thankful for the opportunity to spend time there soaking up the culture and the sunshine. Obviously the beaches are breathtaking (especially for a girl from Utah with no beaches) I recommend going to as many as possible and trying to avoid the overly popular ones (like Bondi) when my friend and I went to Sydney we went to Manly Beach and it was so pretty and much less crowded. Talking to your host family about recommendations was always a huge success for me and my friends! Listen to the locals about food recommendations and try it all! The food is so good and to this day I think about the sausage rolls. I miss the fresh fish and chips and the calamari!”

Learn to be a local. As goofy as that might sound, find things and/or places that make you feel comfortable and you enjoy doing. Some things for me were: going to the gym down the road, taking the bus downtown to get a smoothie and go for a walk, finding your favorite bakeries/bars/restaurants.”

“Something that made me appreciate everything was how cool it was to be able to say I actually did this in my lifetime.”

There was a period of time where I became really homesick. Something that really made me appreciate everything was how cool it was to be able to say I actually did this in my lifetime. Think about how many people can really say I went to live in Australia (not vacation) for x amount of months.”

“If we are to have peace on earth, our loyalties must become ecumenical rather than sectional. Our loyalties must transcend our race, our tribe, our class, and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective.”
